Every year, thousands of Muslims make the journey to Makkah and Madinah for hajj or umrah, a deeply spiritual experience that leaves lifelong memories. Traditionally, these journeys involve flights, ground tours, and carefully planned pilgrimage packages. But starting January 2026, Malaysian travellers have a brand-new, unique option: the IslamiCruise, Malaysia’s first-ever umrah cruise by Aroya Cruises.

The IslamiCruise promises 15 days of adventure, relaxation, and spiritual enrichment. Departing from Port Klang Cruise Terminal in Selangor, the cruise stops at Banda Aceh in Indonesia, Oman, the Maldives, and finally Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims performing umrah will then spend two nights in Jeddah, fully immersing themselves in the sacred journey.
Interestingly, most of these stops (except the Maldives) echo the historical maritime routes used by pilgrims centuries ago, back when sea travel was the primary way to reach Makkah. It’s like a modern-day throwback to the golden age of pilgrimage travel, but with all the comfort and luxury you’d expect on a cruise.
It’s worth noting that the IslamiCruise is a one-way voyage, so passengers will need to arrange return flights separately, as airfare is not included in the base package.

While the IslamiCruise caters primarily to Muslim travellers, non-Muslim passengers are welcome too. Their packages are adapted to exclude the umrah portion, but they can still enjoy all the onboard amenities.
Speaking of amenities, the cruise offers plenty to keep everyone entertained and relaxed:
Swimming pools and water slides for a splash of fun
Miniature golf and football for the active travellers
Spiritual enrichment lectures by Ustaz Wadi Anuar from Malaysia and Ustaz Abdul Somad from Indonesia, for a reflective, soul-nourishing experience
This combination ensures the voyage is both fun and spiritually fulfilling, whether you’re onboard for the pilgrimage or just to enjoy a luxurious cruise.

The Aroya ship can accommodate over 3,500 passengers, offering four types of accommodation, including standard cabins, suites, and even villas. Guests booking suites or higher-class rooms receive membership to the Khuzama Club, which comes with exclusive perks to make their journey even more special.
“This is a great opportunity to pamper yourself and your loved ones in a peaceful and blessed atmosphere,” said Ab Rahman Mohd Ali, project director of Aroya IslamiCruise, during the official launch at KL Tower.
Beyond the luxury and spirituality, the IslamiCruise is expected to boost Malaysia’s tourism economy, potentially attracting up to 8,000 visitors. The cruise has also been officially recognised as a Visit Malaysia 2026 tourism product, adding credibility and national support to this unique initiative.

Bookings are open now through five local umrah and hajj tour agencies, including Tabung Haji Travel & Tours and Andalusia Travel & Tours. For more information, travellers can visit pelayaranislamik.com.
For Muslim travellers looking for a memorable, comfortable, and spiritually enriching journey, the IslamiCruise is more than just a cruise as it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience at sea, blending modern luxury with centuries-old pilgrimage traditions.
