Penang International Airport (PIA) will launch the "MyBorderPass" system and automated customs clearance facilities in the coming months for local and international passengers to improve immigration clearance efficiency and ease congestion. This move will enable passengers from 63 countries and regions to use the automated customs clearance system, greatly shortening the customs clearance time.

In addition to improving customs clearance efficiency, Penang Airport has also added 35 self-service check-in kiosks and 5 self-service baggage drop counters. Currently, the self-service baggage drop service is only available to Malaysia Airlines passengers, but the airport management is negotiating with other airlines to expand the service scope.
According to Bernama, the airport expansion project is also progressing as planned. The first phase of construction, which includes auxiliary buildings and additional aprons, has been completed by 32%.

With passenger traffic surging to 1.37 million in the first two months of 2025, up 17.35% from the same period last year, and a significant increase in international flight frequencies, the expansion project will nearly double the airport’s total number of aprons to 28. This move is essential to meeting the growing demand for passengers and flights, ensuring that all passengers passing through Penang can enjoy a smoother and more efficient journey.
Everyone can look forward to the expansion of Penang International Airport with automatic customs clearance facilities!
