Not just Boracay...
A thrilling new attraction is set to make waves in Sentosa this July. On 23 July 2025, the Singapore Oceanarium will officially open, replacing the beloved S.E.A. Aquarium. This isn’t just a name change — it marks a complete transformation into a world-class marine institute that combines awe-inspiring marine life exhibits with cutting-edge technology, education, and sustainability. Best of all, it’s a destination that’s also Muslim-friendly, making it ideal for families, couples, and curious travellers seeking a meaningful, inclusive experience.

The new Singapore Oceanarium will be three times larger than the previous aquarium, offering visitors an expansive and immersive journey through 22 themed zones. These zones are designed to guide guests from curiosity to commitment, creating an emotional connection with the ocean through interactive technology, immersive storytelling, and environmental themes. From jellyfish habitats to dramatic open ocean displays, this is marine exploration like you’ve never seen before.

Each zone tells a unique story of the marine world. In Ocean Wonders, visitors can marvel at one of the world’s largest kreisel tanks, home to thousands of moon jellyfish. Singapore’s Coast offers a look at native biodiversity through mangrove-inspired landscapes and touch-friendly habitats. The Ancient Waters zone features life-sized prehistoric marine animals and fossils, while Migrators explores long-distance journeys of marine species. The journey continues in Open Ocean, where manta rays and zebra sharks glide across a panoramic 36-meter-wide viewing panel, delivering one of the most breathtaking aquarium experiences in Asia.
For Muslim visitors, Sentosa offers several prayer facilities to ensure a comfortable visit. While the Oceanarium itself may not house a dedicated prayer room, a convenient musollah is located at the Resorts World Sentosa Casino carpark, Basement 1, offering a clean, gender-separated space for prayers. Additional prayer spots can be found around Sentosa, and apps like HalalTrip are helpful for locating them. It’s advisable to bring along a personal prayer mat and garments for added flexibility and ease during your visit.
When hunger strikes, Muslim travellers will find a variety of halal-certified dining options close to the Oceanarium. Inside Resorts World Sentosa, halal-friendly choices include Ayam Penyet President, known for its Indonesian-style crispy chicken; stalls within Malaysian Food Street (check for halal certifications); and Streats Asian Café, which offers local favourites like nasi lemak and mee goreng. McDonald’s @ Sentosa is also halal-certified, providing a familiar option for quick meals. For more variety, nearby VivoCity Mall is home to halal-certified eateries such as Poulet, Eighteen Chefs, and Segar Restaurant, offering everything from Western cuisine to Chinese-style seafood dishes.

Beyond the marine exhibits, there’s plenty more to enjoy. History lovers will appreciate the return of the Jewel of Muscat, a replica of a 9th-century Arabian dhow. For thrill-seekers, Pier Adventure offers a suspended net bridge for adventurous views. Families can unwind at Explorer’s Nook, a themed café serving marine-inspired snacks and drinks. Before leaving, visitors can stop by the Singapore Oceanarium Store to pick up eco-friendly souvenirs, marine-themed gifts, and sustainable fashion items from local brands.

The Singapore Oceanarium is not just an attraction — it’s a centre for marine science and sustainability. The facility is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and works with global organisations like the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It has also established partnerships with NUS and NTU to support marine research and climate resilience projects. Next to the Oceanarium, the Research and Learning Centre is a Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy certified building powered by solar energy, featuring learning labs, seminar rooms, and workspaces for scientists and students alike.
