If you’re a Singaporean who loves hopping across Europe without the hassle of visas, there’s an important update on the horizon. Starting in the last quarter of 2026, travellers from Singapore will need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) to enter over 30 countries in Europe. Think of it as a simple, digital pre-check that keeps travel smooth, secure, and hassle-free, which is perfect for planning that long-awaited Europe trip with ease, especially if you’re looking for Muslim-friendly destinations like Spain, France, or Germany.

ETIAS is not a visa. It’s more like an automated travel clearance that screens travellers from countries that currently enjoy visa-free access to Europe, including Singapore, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
If you’re planning a short trip to France (for its halal-friendly bakeries in Paris), Germany (for its growing Muslim-friendly cities like Berlin and Frankfurt), or Spain (with halal Andalusian heritage sites), you’ll need to get ETIAS approval before you even board your flight.
ETIAS helps to strengthen border security across the Schengen Area, prevent potential security threats, monitor irregular migration, and speed up entry for low-risk travellers like Singaporeans, making your travel experience more efficient and predictable.

Singaporeans, along with travellers from over 60 visa-exempt countries, will need ETIAS. The system was introduced to enhance safety by checking databases like Interpol and Europol. It also helps manage migration risks, improve travel efficiency, and align with global standards.
For Muslim travellers, ETIAS simplifies travel between Europe’s many countries, so you can easily explore multiple halal-friendly cities, find mosques and prayer facilities, and enjoy diverse cuisines without additional visa stress.

The process is fully online and super simple. Just fill out the online application, pay the fee of EUR 20 (~S$29.92) and wait for approval!
Once approved, ETIAS is valid for three years or until your passport expires, allowing multiple entries into Europe as long as you don’t exceed 90 days within a 180-day period.
Muslim-friendly tip: Since you’ll likely be exploring several countries within those 90 days, bookmark nearby halal restaurants and prayer spots in advance using platforms like HalalTrip or Muslim Pro to save time on the go.

It’s important to remember that ETIAS does not guarantee entry. Immigration officers still have the final say at the border. Unlike a Schengen visa, it doesn’t require consulate visits or interviews. It’s simply a digital green light to approach the border.
Make sure you also carry supporting documents such as hotel bookings, return flights, proof of funds, travel insurance, and invitation letters if needed.
Halal travel reminder: Many European airports and stations have prayer rooms (often marked as “multi-faith” or “quiet rooms”), so it’s good to check their locations beforehand for smooth transit prayers.
ETIAS is a small step that makes a big difference. It streamlines travel, enhances security, and ensures your European adventures remain smooth and stress-free. By understanding what ETIAS is, how to apply, and what to prepare, Singaporeans, including Muslim travellers, can continue exploring Europe with confidence, whether it’s a food-filled getaway in Madrid or a heritage walk through Istanbul.
Europe is calling, and soon, a simple online approval will be all you need to answer, so start planning your halal-friendly European adventure early!
