Scoot Launches Flights to Kota Bharu, Malaysia: Its 12th Destination in the Country

There’s exciting news for travellers — especially Muslim travellers looking for more accessible routes across Malaysia! Scoot, the low-cost arm of Singapore Airlines (SIA), has officially launched its flight services to Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on 26 Oct 2025. With this addition, Kota Bharu becomes Scoot’s 12th destination in Malaysia, further strengthening the airline’s network across the country.

For those who’ve been eyeing Malaysia’s charming east coast, this new route is a game-changer. Scoot will operate twice-weekly flights between Singapore and Kota Bharu using its sleek Embraer E190-E2 aircraft — a compact yet comfortable jet with a 112-seat, 2-2 configuration. Think bigger windows for those scenic aerial views, quieter engines for a peaceful flight, and a smoother travel experience overall.

A warm Malaysian welcome

To celebrate this milestone, Tourism Malaysia and local airport authorities rolled out a traditional welcome ceremony at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport. Passengers on the inaugural flight were greeted with cultural performances and small gifts, perfectly capturing Malaysia’s warm hospitality.

Mr Calvin Chan, Scoot’s Chief Commercial Officer, shared,

“We are excited to launch flights to Kota Bharu, strengthening Scoot’s presence across Malaysia and enhancing regional connectivity. For locals and residents on Malaysia’s east coast, this new route provides more convenience to travel to Singapore and the rest of the SIA Group’s wider network. We will continue to collaborate with trade and tourism partners to drive inbound travel to Malaysia.”

What this means for Muslim travellers

For Muslim travellers, this new route opens up plenty of opportunities. Kota Bharu, known as one of Malaysia’s most culturally Islamic cities, offers a fascinating glimpse into Malay traditions, Islamic art, and halal local cuisine. Travellers can explore places like Siti Khadijah Market, where nearly every stall is run by women, or Masjid Muhammadi, one of Kelantan’s most iconic mosques.

And since almost everything in Kota Bharu is halal-certified or Muslim-owned, finding food that meets religious dietary needs is effortless — from the famous nasi kerabu (blue rice) and ayam percik to traditional kuih for dessert. Plus, prayer facilities are easily accessible across the city, including at major tourist spots and malls.
