This is one of George Town’s main attractions. Dozens of murals and large-scale artworks decorate the walls of the old city. Some of the most iconic pieces include "Little Children on a Bicycle" and "Boy on a Chair" by artist Ernest Zacharevic, which you can find primarily along Armenian Street within the colonial buildings. You can also spot them around Chulia Street. The key is to simply wander and explore every corner of this beautiful city to find all the hidden arts!

While not strictly located in George Town, a half-hour drive from the city center will take you to the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The magnificent view against the backdrop of the hill and the strong spiritual atmosphere are incredibly calming. The temple complex features a towering pagoda that blends Chinese, Thai, and Burmese architecture, and you can even climb it for a panoramic view of the city. The complex also houses a 30-meter-tall statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. Given its size, exploring the entire temple can take a while, so feel free to relax in its serene gardens.

This iconic blue building is one of the most famous landmarks in Penang. Known as The Blue Mansion, Cheong Fatt Tze also functions as a hotel. However, if you don't plan to stay the night, you can still join a guided tour. For 45 minutes, a guide will lead you through the mansion, sharing its rich history. This tour is very popular, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance.

Due to its magnificence, this is a must-visit attraction in George Town. Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi is a Chinese clan house for families with the surname Khoo, with a history that dates back 650 years. This building is a masterpiece of intricate architecture, featuring elaborate wood carvings, vibrant murals, and traditional Chinese lanterns. Visiting here feels like stepping into a small palace filled with history and culture.

This series of stilted houses over the sea is a unique settlement of Chinese clans that has existed since the 19th century. Each jetty has its own name, such as Chew Jetty, Lim Jetty, and Tan Jetty. Chew Jetty is the most famous and popular with tourists. Take your time to walk on the wooden walkways, admire the floating houses, and enjoy the sea view. You'll also find many affordable souvenir shops here.

Umbrella Alley is a popular photo spot that you must visit in George Town. This narrow lane is decorated with hundreds of colorful umbrellas hanging overhead, creating a cheerful and unique sight. Its convenient location makes it easy to find and a favorite for visitors looking for Instagramable photos. The alley can get quite crowded during the day, so an early morning visit is a good idea if you want to avoid the crowds.

Located just outside George Town, Penang Hill is a must-add to your itinerary. Here, you can take a funicular train to the top to enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the city. Penang is an excellent destination for Muslim visitors due to its strong Islamic heritage and multi-cultural environment. In George Town, finding Halal food is incredibly easy. Look for eateries run by Malay or Indian Muslims, or check for Halal certificates displayed at the front of restaurants and food stalls. Don't miss trying the local favorites like nasi kandar and mee goreng mamak.
You will also find mosques and musollas (smaller prayer rooms) throughout George Town. Key landmarks like the Kapitan Keling Mosque and Lebuh Aceh Mosque are beautiful and easy to find.
With its perfect blend of history, art, culture, and natural beauty, George Town is a complete holiday destination. While it's often a popular choice for a day trip, it's definitely worth spending two days or more to fully explore this city.
