Melaka has long been known as a melting pot of cultures, from Malay and Chinese influences to Indian and European touches. Now, the state government is introducing a one-of-a-kind initiative to celebrate this beautiful diversity.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Jusoh announced that starting next year, tourists dressed in the elegant Nyonya kebaya, a symbol of Peranakan culture, will receive complimentary access to selected attractions across the state.

Melaka is unique, and the decision to offer complimentary entries is done to honour the long history and rich heritage of these communities in our state,” said Ab Rauf.

This initiative aims to encourage both locals and international visitors to not just see, but also experience the living traditions of Melaka.

Attractions you can visit for free

The free entry offer will include several of Melaka’s top tourist spots, such as:

  • Melaka Zoo: Home to over 1,200 animals, including tigers, elephants, and Malayan tapirs. It’s a great spot for families!

  • Melaka River Cruise: Glide past centuries-old shophouses and vibrant murals while taking in the city’s multicultural charm.

More attractions are expected to be added once the initiative officially launches next year.

What this means for Muslim travellers

If you’re planning a Muslim-friendly weekend getaway, this new programme is a wonderful opportunity to explore Melaka’s rich heritage without spending much! Pair your kebaya stroll with halal-friendly eats, think asam pedas, nasi ayam Hainan, and cendol durian and drop by nearby mosques like the Masjid Kampung Hulu or Masjid Selat Melaka for prayers.

Tip: Bring a lightweight kebaya top that you can wear modestly with a long skirt or pants. It’s a beautiful way to honour the culture while keeping it comfortable and Syariah-friendly.

Why we love this

We adore how Melaka continues to find creative ways to make heritage come alive! This initiative doesn’t just promote tourism, but it also encourages meaningful cultural connections. So the next time you visit, dress up, snap those Insta-worthy photos by the river, and immerse yourself in Melaka’s timeless charm.
