After a five-year pause, Thailand is finally pressing "go" on one of its most ambitious transportation projects: a 220-kilometre high-speed rail that connects not one, not two, but three major airports — Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, and U-Tapao. And the best part? It's expected to launch this July 2025.
For anyone planning a trip to Thailand — especially Muslim travellers looking for smooth, time-saving travel options — this is a total game-changer.

Imagine flying into Bangkok’s Don Mueang or Suvarnabhumi Airport and then zipping down to U-Tapao near Pattaya in about an hour — no traffic jams, no hassle. That’s what this new high-speed railway promises. It’s built to extend and integrate with the current Airport Rail Link, which already connects the city centre with Suvarnabhumi. But now, it’s going next-level — stretching all the way to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Thailand’s booming hub for tourism, business, and industry.
For Muslim travellers, this means easier access to coastal getaways like Pattaya and Rayong, where halal food options, prayer spaces, and Muslim-friendly accommodations are becoming more common thanks to a growing Muslim population and tourism focus.

Don Mueang Airport (DMK) – Mostly handles low-cost carriers. If you're flying regionally within ASEAN, chances are you’ll land here.
Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) – Bangkok’s main international gateway and home to dedicated Muslim prayer rooms, halal food outlets, and easy airport rail access.
U-Tapao Airport (UTP) – The gateway to Pattaya and Thailand’s eastern coast. It’s getting a major upgrade as part of this rail project.
By linking these three hubs, the new line doesn’t just improve connectivity — it totally redefines how people move across Thailand.

Thailand has long been a popular destination among Muslim travellers from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East, and beyond. But let’s be real — navigating between airports or reaching beach towns like Pattaya usually meant long car rides, unpredictable traffic, and not much room to stop for prayers or find halal food.
Now, with the new high-speed train:
You can travel faster and more comfortably, even with family or kids in tow.
Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang already have designated prayer rooms, and new stations along this route are likely to be Muslim-friendly, given Thailand’s growing awareness of halal tourism.
Destinations like Pattaya are seeing a rise in halal restaurants, mosques, and Muslim-friendly hotels, making them more inclusive than ever.

Although the rail will begin operations in July 2025, the contract finalisation and full completion are being closely monitored to ensure everything goes as planned. Once fully up and running, the rail line is expected to cut travel time between Bangkok and the EEC to just about an hour — making weekend trips or even same-day excursions incredibly doable.
So, whether you're planning a halal honeymoon, a family beach trip, or just looking to explore more of Thailand in a short time — this train ride might just be your new favourite way to travel.
