Hari Raya 2019: 5 Ways to Spruce Up Your Home For The Festive Season

It’s less than 10 days to Syawal and families will usually be busy prepping for the festive season. Busy Muslims would take a day off from their busy schedules to clean and get their homes ready.

Spring cleaning will go into overdrive to ensure your house is ready for all your Raya guests. Remember, you don’t need to spend a fortune to give your home a brand new look this festive season. Here are some inexpensive ways to spruce your home up for Hari Raya this year.

1. “Marie Kondo” your home

As the wise Marie Kondo said, “If it doesn’t spark joy, you shouldn’t keep it.” Since you’re cleansing and nourishing your soul during Ramadan, why not also free yourself of clutter?  Whether it has no more use or is taking up unnecessary space, this is a great opportunity for you to declutter your home and ultimately, your mind.

This will not only free up more space in your living space but also give you a chance to take inventory of your stuff. Moreover, in the spirit of charity in Ramadan, you can easily donate items that are still in mint condition.

2. Paint your home

An easy method of giving your boring home a fresh new look is a fresh new coat of paint. An addition or a change in colour might change the overall outlook of your residence. Bright and clean colours will help your home look larger and spacious. Alternatively, you can switch things up with a pop of colour to give it a more lively atmosphere.

Selecting the colours for your walls might prove to be stressful. But you can either opt for more neutral hues or paint selective walls to be on the safe side. Whenever possible, be sure to get your painting done with some help as it can be a rather strenuous activity.

3. Rearrange your furniture

Living rooms are an important space as it is where you will welcome and entertain your guests. Instead of changing up your furniture, you can simply give your living room a new look by moving around your furniture. A different arrangement will give your home a new vibe or look without making any drastic home improvement projects.

For example, you can huddle your sofas together in a corner to create more space for guests to move around easily especially if there’s a sudden influx of relatives visiting. Plus, it will make your living room seem more spacious and inviting.

4. Add fresh flowers and plants

A great way to give your home more life and warmth is to add plants and flowers around your space. The smell of fresh flowers and added greenery will give your home a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere. Also, it is a foolproof way to add more colours to your home without any strenuous work.

Plants do add more texture and character to your home decor. But they also improve your overall health since it enhances air quality and air moisture. Do take into account the type and size of your plant as you would want something you could maintain easily and you wouldn’t want it to take up too much space.

Be sure to select pots that suit the home decor too. You should play it safe and use pots of neutral tones so it can match with your home even if you decide to change your overall colour scheme.

5. Give your home character with artworks

Whether you’re hanging framed Islamic art or just a loving family photo, filling the empty spaces in your home is another way to add more character. Artworks are a great way to express yourself and your style. Why not have your personality reflected in your own living space?

Moreover, it is important to make sure that your wall hangings are easy to remove, in case you want to change your overall home decor again.

You don’t need to invest a lot of time and money to tidy up your home for the festive season. With these simple DIY tips, you can easily give your home a brand new look for a brand new beginning this Syawal.
