Mosques in Bangkok: Here’s Where to Pray

Despite Muslims only constituting a mere 5% of Thailand’s population, there are actually plenty of mosques here. There are over 3,494 mosques sprawled all across this Southeast Asian country. Most Thai Muslims are found in Southern Thailand and yet, the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, hosts thousands of Muslim travellers monthly.

Also known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon, Bangkok has sealed its position as a favourite Muslim-friendly travel destination of conveniently-located halal food and tons of prayer facilities.

Did you know there are reportedly over 170 mosques just in Bangkok itself? Here are some mosques to check out as you explore Muslim-friendly Bangkok.

Near Chao Phraya River

Also known as the River of Kings, Chao Phraya River is a major river that runs through Bangkok. Muslim travellers who hop on one of the many boat cruises along the river would be able to appreciate the stunning sights of the city.

You might be able to spot some of this capital city’s famous landmarks such as the Pak Khlong Flower Market. As you cruise along the river, be sure to spot many mosques nearby from the Bangkok Mosque to the Bang Luang Mosque.

Ratchathewi is commonly known as a transport hub in Bangkok as many inter-city buses drive through as they head to other popular Thai cities like Hua Hin and Pattaya.

Phra Nakhon

Phra Nakhon might not seem to be a very Muslim-friendly area as it’s where many temples like the Phra Pathom Chedi are located. Besides learning more about other religions and appreciating the various Buddhist temples, Muslim travellers can also explore the many sights including the Air Orchid Farm and of course, the Lam Phaya Floating Market.

When in the urban area of Bang Kapi, Muslim travellers should definitely visit the Mall. The Mall is not just your ordinary shopping mall. Besides the department store, watch a film at their cinema or have a splashing good time at the massive water park on the top floor. Otherwise, head down to the Rajamangala Stadium to browse the National Sports Museum or watch some exciting football.

Yan Nawa and Sathon

Sathon is mostly a commercial district filled with various skyscrapers. As you walk along Sathon Road, Muslim travellers would be able to spot multiple pushcarts selling various kinds of local cuisine. Down at the Sathon Pier, you’ll see the longtail boats that cruise along the Chao Phraya River. Yan Nawa, on the other hand, has a more busy atmosphere with popular shopping malls like Central Plaza Rama III and Chatuchak Rama III. Also, be sure to look out for the Rama IX Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge in Thailand.
